Before there was a Richmond San Rafael Bridge, there was a Richmond San Rafael Ferry. Captain Raymond Clark, (Pt. San Pablo Yacht harbor was his idea too) was one of the founders of this ferry service which carried passengers and motor vehicles between Richmond and San Rafael.
Castro point, just under the bridge on the Richmond side of the bridge was the ferry launching area. This area was also the site of the western terminal for the East Shore & Suburban Railway which connected Richmond to downtown Oakland.
